During your first visit to Augusta Orthodontics, you will meet with Dr. Darryl Zeleniak. We may recommend that your child uses a Forsus™ Fatigue Resistant Device appliance as a way to correct their bite. The Forsus appliance Augusta, Maine, can be used as an alternative to more invasive bite correction appliances, such as orthodontic headgear. In addition, this appliance functions in a way similar to elastic materials and is placed by our Orthodontist. It is non-removable and is designed to correct an overbite and improve the relationship of a patient’s bite. We may also recommend a Forsus appliance to help avoid the need for orthognathic (jaw) surgery in the future.
The Forsus appliance is made up of springs that are attached to the molar bands of a patient’s orthodontic treatment, which then guide the patient’s bite into the optimal position. There may be some discomfort to the patient while their mouth adjusts to this new alignment, but this should allow the patient to bite properly. It is often put in place earlier in the patient’s treatment; often within the first 6 months. It can be worn for six to nine months, depending on the needs of the patient. You can also count on our team to check the function of your Forsus appliance at every appointment. To learn more about this alternative to headgear, please call 207-626-3550 today.
